The Great Misdirect

Caves • Corridors • Slot Canyon Passages • Summit Views

Route Introduction

The Great Misdirect is a twisting journey through beautifully sculpted corridors, narrow slot passages, and hidden cave features within the granite formations of Joshua Tree.

The route winds through a series of surprising turns and tight rock hallways where careful body positioning and creative movement become part of the adventure. While the physical demands remain moderate, the terrain provides a strong sense of engagement as passages narrow and the route bends through the formation.

At several points the route moves through darker cave environments where a headlamp becomes helpful. Short rope sections may be used for safety while navigating certain features.

Eventually the terrain opens dramatically onto expansive summit views that contrast with the enclosed corridors below.

Because the route forms a natural loop, the adventure continues to reveal new terrain rather than retracing the same path.
