Story of summit

Hi friends! My name is Stephen, and I own and operate Summit Climbing Guides. This story begins in the upper pan handle of northern Idaho, where a family facing hardships and a young boy feeling lost discovers solace in the outdoors, skateboarding, and music. Like numerous families during that time, and still today, we also experienced tough times. Being in nature allowed me to find happiness in the present moment, without having to constantly yearn for a better future or strive to be part of a more compassionate community. It provided a space for personal growth and a sense of contentment in my own endeavors to make a positive difference in the world.

From the earliest stages of my life, it became evident that my true calling lay in the realm of education. The desire to impart knowledge and contribute to the growth, progress, and achievements of others burned within me. I embarked on a journey of instructing individuals in various skills, from skateboarding and musical instruments like the guitar and piano, to essential life skills such as pitching tents and building robust campfires. And now, in the later chapters of my life, I find myself sharing the art of rock climbing.
However, it must be acknowledged that the path to success is not without its hurdles, a truth that resonates with countless individuals. I, too, faced my fair share of challenges while navigating through college and relocating to the sprawling metropolis of Los Angeles back in 2010. Those initial years in the city were certainly trying, as I grappled with the demands of adapting to a new environment. Fortunately, I was surrounded by an incredible circle of friends who shared a profound love for exploration and the great outdoors, beyond the confines of the cityscape.
It was during this critical juncture of my life that Joshua Tree National Park made its transformative appearance. Serving as my inaugural voyage outside the urban landscape, this trip became a pivotal moment in shaping my trajectory. More story below!

We journeyed through the park under the cover of night, preventing me from catching sight of the immense stone formations until daybreak. It was only when I unzipped my tent at our campsite in White Tank campground that I truly beheld its awe-inspiring magnitude. Anyone familiar with Joshua Tree National Park will understand the depth of my reaction when I simply uttered, "Whoa". That morning marked a profound shift in my life. Instantly, I dived into a search for rock climbing courses, sought out guides and climbing enthusiasts, and even joined a gym to immerse myself in this exhilarating pursuit. Rock climbing has not only rescued me from various trials but has also become much more than just a sport to me. Assisting others in discovering the wonders of this vertical world has always brought me immense joy. Now, as a member of Summit Climbing Guides, I eagerly look forward to enabling more people to uncover their own potential, overcome challenges, and conquer the seemingly impossible as they undertake rock climbing courses to acquire the necessary skills and independence to scale the stone on their own. Rock climbing is my all-consuming passion, and I earnestly hope for the opportunity to embark on this incredible and soul-stirring adventure together with you!
